Memorial Day Weekend

There are more than 94,000 confirmed Coronavirus-related deaths in the U.S. according to Johns Hopkins University. All 50-states have started the re-opening process and some fear that could kick-start a rise in cases. The Pandemic is going to play a factor with the Memorial Day holiday. Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of Summer, but this isn’t going to be the typical holiday weekend.

Health Officials say to be cautious at cookouts. Social distancing guidelines have become an issue in Roswell, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. Residents there say the Chattahoochee River is a spot where social distancing measures are being ignored. A Roswell spokesperson says City Officials are addressing the issue and Police are keeping watch.

Perhaps the biggest change this holiday weekend is in the Nation’s Capital. Annual Memorial Day ceremonies at National Park Service sites, including wreath-layings, will be on-line or pre-recorded. In 1966, Waterloo, New York was declared by Congress as Memorial Day’s birthplace. The holiday was originally created to honor the military who died during the Civil War.
